Buying a second hand laptop has a high chances that some of its components are not working properly. However, if you are a non-technical user, it is really difficult to determine if the laptop you had purchased is good. Most of all, for some unit, it does not have factory warranty anymore.
Here are the few steps applicable for Lenovo laptop on how to test a second hand laptop and to ensure that all components are working right.
Check if unit have no dents and scratches
I would recommend that laptop do not have any form of dents. This is to ensure that the unit did not fell. However, minimal scratches is fine as long as laptop is still presentable.
Verify if unit components are correct
There is a possibility that the unit do not have the same specification supplier had provided and promised. You need to check it by yourself.
You can also run “DxDiag” tool by typing DxDiag in search field from taskbar. DxDiag is short for DirectX diagnostics. It is a Microsoft tool included with DirectX that allow you to view system information.
Perform hardware test
Lenovo laptop has an amazing and easy to use application to verify hardware and warranty. Lenovo Vantage is free application applicable for Lenovo. With this application, you can easily test your laptop’s major components such as processor, memory, hard disks, battery and system board.

You can test your mic by just simply recording your voice. Default Voice Record application is a good option to test it.
To test speaker you may just go to Youtube and play any videos in there.
Test all keyboard keys
Drain and charge battery
Lenovo has option depending on your laptop model to protect your battery. In my case, it is “Rapid Charge” for fast charging. Conservation Mode is to ensure that your laptop will not be over charge. It will stop charging in a specific percentage so it can be plugin all day without damaging laptop’s battery.
To test you battery, you need to drain it and then charge it. Take note on how fast you have charge the laptop. Once it is full charge, you need to drain. Put it on standby mode and do not do anything. Take note of how long it take to drain its battery.
Check web camera
The default application “Camera” is an option to test your built in laptop camera.
